Esteemed Panel: Stained Glass Weekend at SwellColors Glass Studio in Surf City is Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Participants create a beautiful 12-by-14-inch or 13-inch-square window of their own design with help from the experts.

The popular workshop is offered twice a year. Gallery owner Mary Tantillo and her team offer guidance as they demonstrate the process using professional tools and materials. Tantillo invites everyone to try their hand at an ancient craft, learn tricks of the trade and create a unique keepsake. Register at SwellColors.com. The class is for ages 15 and older; eight spots are available, to give everyone focused attention. Bring a few simple design ideas or choose from pre-selected patterns. Shaping Futures: The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences in Loveladies hosts Southern Regional School District’s Student Art Exhibition from Wednesday, April 9 through Sunday, April 27. The opening and Art Honor Society Induction Ceremony are Wednesday, April 9 starting at 6 p.m. LBIF will be open weekends during the exhibition from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All are invited to join faculty members Maureen Hoffman, Megan Lister, Jennifer Miller, Melissa Penna and Joanne Rist in celebrating Southern’s outstanding art students. Hoffman is co-adviser of the Art Honor Society and adviser of the Art Club. Lister teaches eighth-grade art and high school painting and drawing. Miller is a 21-year veteran of Southern’s art department. Penna is the senior member of the department and co-adviser of the Art Honor Society. Rist teaches sculpture and art fundamentals.

The show represents the best work by young minds and supports a new generation of artists.

Springing Up: “Women and Family” is the current exhibit at Pine Shores Art Association’s Tuckerton Art Center. The next show at the flagship gallery on Stafford Avenue in Manahawkin is “Celebrating Spring and Art in Bloom,” on display from April 30 through June 25.

Classes at the Tuckerton Art Center include a special effects watercolor class for beginners on Saturday, April 12; basket weaving Saturday, April 19; and watercolor painting Saturday, April 26. Meanwhile, at PSAA headquarters, a two-day class in how to paint glass on film with colored pencils will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, April 22 and 23. —V.F.
